The Airpax™ 6700 series is a RoHS-compliant, sub-miniature, positive snap-action bimetallic thermostat designed for precision thermal sensing and control applications. It is a single-pole, single-throw (SPST) device available in both “open on rise” and “close on rise” configurations. The thermostat conforms to the TO-220/Y-220 international electronic package standard, allowing for high-speed automated placement and soldering on printed circuit boards (PCBs).

Electrical and Thermal Specifications

    • 48 VDC, 0.5 A (resistive load) for 20,000 cycles.
    • 5 VDC, 0.001 A (gold contacts) for 100,000 cycles.
  • Operating Temperature Range: 40°C to 130°C (104°F to 266°F).
  • Temperature Tolerance: Standard ±5°C, with increments available in 5°C steps.
  • Short-Term Exposure Limit: 260°C (500°F) for 10 seconds.
  • Long-Term Exposure Limit: -55°C to 160°C (-67°F to 320°F).

Construction and Materials

  • Dielectric Strength:
    • Nickel-plated copper bracket: 1480 VAC, 60Hz, 1 second.
    • Plastic mounting bracket (“P” option): 2000 VAC, 60Hz, 1 second.
  • Insulation Resistance: 100 MΩ at 500 VDC.
  • Shock Resistance: MIL-STD-202, Method 213, Test Condition C (100 G’s for 6 ms, half sine wave).
  • Vibration Resistance: MIL-STD-202, Method 204D, Test Condition D (10 to 2,000 Hz).
  • Sealing: High-temperature epoxy sealed for wave soldering and moisture resistance per Sensata specification S-722.
  • Material Composition:
    • Base Material: PPS (Polyphenylene Sulfide), UL 94V-0 rated.
    • Terminal Material: 65% Copper, 18% Nickel.
    • Contact Material: Gold-plated or overlay silver crossbar.
    • Mounting Bracket: Nickel-plated copper (standard) or high-pressure laminated plastic (“P” option).
  • Chemical Resistance: Resists water, salt, alcohol, ammonia, trichloroethane, and most organic solvents.

Operational Configurations

The 6700 series thermostats are available in two operational modes:

  1. Open on Rise (Limit Configuration – L): Breaks the circuit when temperature exceeds a pre-set limit, protecting components from overheating.
  2. Close on Rise (Fan Configuration – F): Makes contact when temperature rises, ideal for activating cooling fans or warning systems.

Ordering Information

Each thermostat is assigned a unique part number based on its configuration:

  • Contact Operation:
    • “F” = Close on rise (fan control).
    • “L” = Open on rise (over-temperature protection).
  • Operating Temperature: Three-digit representation in degrees Celsius (e.g., 090 for 90°C).
  • Mounting Bracket:
    • Standard (nickel-plated copper) – No designation required.
    • “P” = Plastic bracket for higher dielectric strength and VDE compliance.
  • Factory Assigned Number: Optional four-digit suffix for special requirements.

Example:

  • 67F090: Closes at 90°C, resets below 60°C.
  • 67L060P: Opens at 60°C, resets below 40°C, plastic mounting bracket.
