The Standard FST of 5mm diameter actuation area (FST-R-0005-ST) is the smallest FST available, for special applications needing small actuation areas.
The Standard FST of 12.7mm diameter actuation area (FST-R-0013-ST) is a popular size, as it fits the dimension of a finger for force applications.
The Standard FST of 38mm Square actuation area is a good fit for larger hand actuated areas. Custom sizes range up to 500mm square. PN: FST-S-0038-ST.
Custom sizes may range up to 500mm square.
How It Works
In simple terms, the Force Sensor Touch is a layered electrical membrane based on a specialty resistive ink on one layer that varies in resistance value as it is being pushed. The more force, the greater the conductivity of the ink, registering a resistance curve that shows the amount of force given to the sensor. On another later, is the signal processing that transmits the change in resistance to the electronics
By pressing down with an actuator or a finger, requiring no electrical properties of the actuation device, the Force Sensor Touch will give the desired electrical output. The top and bottom circuits are separated by 0.15mm (0.006″) spacer adhesive build-up and contact between the circuit occurs by pressure from the non-conductive mechanism.
Wiper - WP-M1-01-03-014-DI
The FST is not a precision instrument, like a strain gauge or load cell, but is an accurate measurement of the amount of force applied to a specific location, for wider tolerance objects.

How It Works

The Force Sensor Touch operates on an elegantly simple yet effective principle. Built on a layered electrical membrane with a specialty resistive ink, the FST responds to applied pressure by changing its resistance. The greater the force, the lower the resistance — creating a smooth, measurable resistance curve.

Unlike capacitive sensors, the FST does not require conductive materials for actuation. Whether it’s a finger, stylus, or mechanical component, any non-conductive object can trigger the sensor.

Inside, a thin spacer (just 0.006 inches) keeps the top and bottom circuits separated until pressure is applied. Once contact is made, the electrical signal is processed and transmitted, providing real-time feedback with remarkable consistency.

Application Versatility

The Force Sensor Touch is already being used across sectors:

  • Gaming Controllers: Responsive, pressure-sensitive input

  • Medical Equipment: Grip measurement and patient interaction monitoring

  • Robotics & Automation: Tactile feedback and pressure mapping

  • Consumer Electronics: Navigation, user interface control

  • Industrial Equipment: Durable, low-profile controls
